Route ideas and who's out for the Wednesday night ride...

Postby dove on Mon Feb 08, 2010 4:04 pm

Right as a break from this dull Monday, I need to start thinking about where we'll ride on Wednesday night...

Anyone got any ideas or burning desires...?

I`ll be out.
Not sure about the route though. Might be a little optimistic with all the snow and ice that`s still lingering.

Details of last night’s ride

Route & Stats: Sorry Dave, I am not in a position to post these this week, so you can’t compare/contrast… But it was a steady yet technical, fun and cheeky ride! Basically we started on the route above but deviated (and took in extra bit but missed out some too)…

In attendance were: FP Dave, Gus, Gary (almost fully recovered), Rus, new rider Brian from New Mills and myself.

Weather: dry, windy to start, but clear and freezing – nice riding conditions as after the initial climb the wind was behind us!

Most annoying thing: my freewheel freezing
Best thing: the normally very muddy ground on this route being frozen solid
Most predicable thing: despite Gus complaining about being ill, and Gary just recovering from leg injury, they were both the first up the hills!
Most surprising thing: Gus joining us for a swift half in the pub!

Summary: All good clean fun - the mud was frozen!

Also, I don't think I'll be out next week - it depends on what time we get back from London.

If I don't see you have a wonderfull time!

As Dave isn`t able to correct you on the stats, I just thought I`d let you know that Brian actually spells his name Bryan and Rus is actually called Ross, as in fish fingers.
Give my regards to the Queen.

Last night’s ride...

The above was the short route – a few added an extra little loop on to the end.

In attendance:
FP (which house?) Dave,
Dave (5.30am start for Brighton) Knowles,
Gus (still not well – or is it old age, but first up the hills) French,
Gary (Sergeant single-speed),
Maher (only just made it),
Bryan (back for more),
Chris (long time no see),
John (got twitchy and went to watch the football)!
And myself (just back from down south)

Weather: cold and snowing.

Most annoying: Puncture
Most enjoyable: Banter, Beer and Pork Scratchings
Most surprising: Dave Knowles not going to the pub (& Gus joining us again)
Most predicable: John not finishing the ride with everyone else… This is becoming a habit - do you not like us?! LOL

Summary: When you break the snow covered icy crust, you sink into the familiar dark muddy gloop – This is not intended as a metaphor!

nice write up.

It was the most enjoyable ride I've had for some time - I was actually up there in the top half of the group - probably cos most of the fast guys were ill or on recovery rides, but nevertheless it made me feel good, so thanks anyway :-)

Excellent route, and I nearly got launched into outer space by my bike, as Chris will testify!
